Virginia Senior Classical League

Officers

The VSCL officers are the leaders of our organization. Currently, they include the President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Editor, and Parliamentarian. Officers are elected each year at the VJCL Convention. Think you have what it takes to be one of these COOL CATS? Bring a short bio/CV and an idea of the office(s) for which you'd like to run (if at first you don't succeed, try, try again)! Uncle Caesar wants you!

President- Sarah Keith

Sarah Keith is a Junior at Randolph-Macon College, where she is a Latin major. She enjoys Pliny, poetry, and long walks on the beach. She intends to become a Latin teacher, where she can introduce students to the friendly hand of JCL, and the iron fist of the JCL. When not studying the glories of Greece and Rome, she is an active member of her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Habitat for Humanity. She can be reached at president.vscl (at) gmail.com and sarahckeith (at)gmail.com.

Vice President- Woojin Kim

Woojin is a sophomore studying Classics and History at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.  Having played Certamen (Latin quiz-bowl) in high school, Woojin understands the importance of providing a fun, and even competitive, way of learning, so he volunteers his services as a Certamen question writer, moderator, and coach at the state and national levels.  He enjoy playing guitar and singing (check out his channel at www.youtube.com/hugewooj), eating new and tasty foods, watching 'Arrested Development,' talking about Jesus, reading Ovid, running (in circles), digressing, and daydreaming.

Secretary/Treasurer- Taylor Johnson

Taylor is a second-year Classics Major at the University of Virginia and is currently in her ninth year of Latin. She has been playing Certamen since middle school and sat on the Medusa Mythology Exam Committee as the student member. Presently, she is planning the 2013 UVa Classics Day as the Classics Day Chair. Her areas of interest include mythology, Ancient Greek, and studying an increasingly large number of languages.

Parliamentarian- Tyler Heist

Tyler Heist is a student at University of Richmond, majoring in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Computer Science. Having been a Kentucky JCLer all of his JCL career, he is really excited to be starting his SCL career as VSCL Parliamentarian!

Member-at-Large- Paul De

Paul De earned his B.S. in architecture at the University of Virginia before eventually becoming a web developer.  having served on state and national SCL boards, he now spends a fair bit of time crashing national and state Latin conventions, welcomed at (almost) all places he dares to venture!

Editor- Claire Niemann

Claire is a sophomore at the College of William and Mary, currently studying both Ancient Greek and in Mason School of Business (Marketing). She has been taking Latin for six years and Greek for four! Besides Classics, Claire enjoys professional football (go Ravens), working in the Tribe football film room and causing general chaos, as well as moderating certamen here and there.
